We’re deep in the holiday spirit here at Style.com, and after clicking through our slideshow of the world’s most glamorous party couples, we bet you are, too.
When it comes time to go out this winter, pick a piece from Pallas, a French brand with a sexy take on tailoring. The company, originally opened in 1961 as a suit maker to Balenciaga and Karl Lagerfeld, has recently been reborn as a destination for slinky jumpsuits, dramatic capes, and smokings, courtesy of the founder’s son Daniel Pallas and his wife, Véronique Bousquet.
“We always end up being inspired by women,” the designers explained of their process. “Charlotte Rampling, Lauren Hutton, Faye Dunaway, Veruschka, or Cate Blanchett—powerful women without losing their beauty!” It makes sense, then, that they have enlisted some of the coolest, strongest women of today as collaborators and consultants. The list includes Hannelore Knuts; Vanessa Traina Snow; and Allegria Torassa and Niki Pauls, founders of the infamous Cicciolina parties during Paris fashion week and Art Basel.
As for the decision to create an entire collection around suiting (you won’t find a single dress in the line), Daniel explained, “We wanted to mix the knowledge of the atelier on structured clothes with what we’ve always loved, the tuxedo.” Véronique adds, “I can’t imagine going out without a jacket, and I never wear dresses at night—always a tuxedo.” The pair’s love of the shape is evident not only in their dedication to tailored silhouettes, but also in the craftsmanship of each piece, born from hand-cut patterns and assembled by a single person.
With that in mind, shoppers might find it hard to pick a single piece from the label. Our favorites in the slideshow are a good place to start.
