Two’s a Trend: Orange Is the New Black

The color of the year might be that winey shade of marsala, but the hue ruling the runways is orange. Seen throughout the New York, London, and Milan shows, shades of tangerine, pumpkin, and burnt sienna have appeared on handbags at Altuzarra, sweaters and scarves at Bottega Veneta, and, most recently, high-rise boots at Jil Sander and MSGM. Both Rodolfo Paglialunga at Jil Sander and Massimo Giorgetti at MSGM got the van Gogh memo—that “there is no blue…without orange”—and sent out soft navy blue outerwear with safety orange stompers. Paglialunga’s color choice echoed the ’70s pornographer sunglasses paired with several looks, while Georgetti’s orange was just another in a series of brights and neons. Still, the message is clear: Orange you glad happy footwear is trending?
