New York Fashion Week Fall 2016 ready-to-wear is underway. Despite the freezing weather, there’s no stopping the fashion industry from attending the shows and the designers from delivering the goods. From music-infused presentations, to celebrity collaborations, dance-offs, and A-listers filling up the front rows, we roundup the major highlights that took place during the first leg of NYFW.
NYFW Part One Recap: Highlights from Yeezy, Rihanna, Victoria Beckham, and More
Saint Laurent Takes Los Angeles
One day ahead of New York Fashion Week, Saint Laurent’s creative director Hedi Slimane held a one-off show in Los Angeles to showcase the brand’s men’s collection and Part One of the women’s Fall 2016 collection. A-listers headed to the West Coast in droves to fill the front row, which included Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Courtney Love, and Jessica Alba.
Yeezy Season 3 Extravaganza
Kicking off the first day of New York Fashion Week in full force was Kanye West’s music-filled spectacle for the premiere of Yeezy Season 3 and the release of his new album The Life of Pablo, which all went down at Madison Square Garden. The Kardashian/Jenner/West clan stepped out in all-white ensembles courtesy of Balmain and Yeezy with Kim Kardashian sporting a waist grazing bleach blond wig while toting North who was also fashioned in her father’s line. On the main stage, the collection featured distressed knitwear, body suits, and oversized outwear in a neutral color palette highlighted with shocks of melon, lime, and ox blood.
Fenty X Puma
In a more intimate setting compared to the Yeezy’s blowout showcase, Rihanna debuted her first collection for Puma under the title Fenty X Puma. The singer presented her streetwear meets athleisure line inspired by her signature style to a front row peppered with high-profile names such as Naomi Campbell, Chris Rock, Jeremy Scott, and Wale. On the runway, Gigi and sister Bella Hadid joined Imaan Hammam and Lexi Boling to showcase the monochromatic collection of oversized bomber jackets, body-skimming lace up dresses, and fur outerwear that were styled with knee-high boxing boots and lace-up sneaker stilettos.
Arctic Attire
A blast of bitter cold is sweeping through New York City forcing the street-style circuit to take cover in their best outerwear to brave the chilly temperatures. Featuring furs galore and luxe layers, see our full visual report on fashion taking place outside the shows as snapped by Valentina Frugiuele here.
Victoria Beckham is Hong Kong Bound
Ahead of the Victoria Beckham Fall 2016 ready-to-wear presentation, the designer behind her namesake label confirmed that she’s opening her boutique in Hong Kong on March 16th. During her collection showcase, which (as usual) featured her family sitting front and center amid the fashion set, the designer explored voluminous shapes, deconstructed tweed silhouettes, and checked patterned styles.
Diane von Fürstenberg’s Model-Infused Conga Line
Diane von Fürstenberg opted out of showcasing a runway show, and instead hosted a dance party presentation at the DVF boutique in the Meatpacking District. Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Jourdan Dunn, Irina Shayk, Karlie Kloss and Lily Aldridge (18) showed off their best moves by boogying down in the designer’s Fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection that is available now for purchase.
Kate Bosworth Attends Noon by Noor
A feminine spirit was captured through relaxed silhouettes and rich fabrics at the Noon by Noor Fall 2016 ready-to-wear presentation. The brand, favored in the region and founded by Bahraini cousins Shaikha Haya and Shaikha Noor Al Khalifa, was attended by actress Kate Bosworth and fashion’s It girls Olivia Palermo and Leigh Lezark.
