Louis Vuitton has officially named Nicolas Ghesquière—the much acclaimed former head-designer of Balenciaga – its new artistic director of womenswear.
“Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation, and exploration. I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great Maison. We share common values and a vision,” said Ghesquière in an official release.
After much to-ing and fro-ing in the media, and several assumptions made on a possible new designer for Louis Vuitton, Ghesquière’s appointment is already well-received.
Reputed for his sharply constructed silhouettes, and couture-like approach to ready-to-wear, the French designer’s new appointment has been made right in time, for the brand’s 160th anniversary in 2014.
The designer will showcase his first womenswear collection for Louis Vuitton, next March, for the Fall 2014 season. Former Creative Director, Marc Jacobs, left his seat last October to dedicate himself more fully to his eponymous line.
