A Sense of 1970s free-spirited individualism is still thriving in fashion, based on Dior’s latest ad for its fragrance Miss Dior. In the short film, Natalie Portman plays a beautiful bride on her wedding day who gets cold feet, says “Sorry, Dad,” and runs from a picturesque altar set on the French Riviera. She strips from her white frilly Dior couture gown into a black strapless dress, and with Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart” providing the soundtrack, gets picked up from a rocky cliff via helicopter. It’s a reminder that Miss Dior is not a Mrs., nor does she ever have to be (although, what about Ms.?)—a feminist statement of sorts.
