Kuwait has long been a leader for spearheading fashion trends in the Gulf. Known for their risk-taking style and unapologetic approach to fashion, Kuwaiti women have always had a regional reputation for their trend-setting ways. Wondering what the next big thing to come out of the country will be? It appears that mothers are taking a little style inspiration from their children’s outfits, by way of mommy-and-me kaftans.

During a recent trip to Kuwait, former Ports 1961 designer Tia Cibani showcased the Spring 2016 childrenswear collection from her namesake brand during an event hosted by Sarah Al Wazzan (renowned for her couture sensibilities, uncovered here) at her children’s boutique, Panacheous. Drawn to the collection’s nomadic flavor, derived from North African and Middle Eastern cultures, mothers showed an interest in Cibani’s pintsize creations—but not just for their children. Speaking to Style.com/Arabia, Cibani shared, “A lot of the ladies here said, ‘I want that kaftan in my size so that during Ramadan my daughter can wear her little kaftan and I can wear my mommy size kaftan.’”

Inspired by the requests, the designer plans to recreate a limited number of her mini creations in women’s sizes. “Sarah has organized it for specific moms that wanted them and we’re going to have them made,” Cibani said.
