For her Fall 2014 collection, Mary Katrantzou introduced Tikiman and Clocktopia, digitally created characters made from various signs and symbols. The duo appeared in the runway collection on looks 27 and 28. Today, we meet them again in this short film.
“The plot of the film has been crafted to represent the coming together of elements and tokens, natural and man-made,” Katrantzou told Style.com. “The film plays with the language of symbols, with the visual values of culture, abstracting them from their origins and reinventing them as a connecting line of a new language—in this case, the love story of Tikiman and Clocktopia.”
Video, it seems, has become an essential component of a fashion collection. With each season we see more and more designers creating short films to deliver their message. The story of Tikiman and Clocktopia is as beautiful and charming as they get. “Through the influx of the Internet, the fashion landscape has had to keep up with technology,” Katrantzou says. “Fashion film breathes life into static photography, offering a new outlet to designers to showcase their work and tell a story to evoke emotion.”
The film, made with the support of the British Fashion Council and directed by Daniel Sannwald, premiers here exclusively on Style.com today, which also happens to be the day of Mary Katrantzou’s London Fashion Week runway show.
