In a conversation with Style.com/Arabia Men, Lomar’s Creative Director, Christophe Abdulmosawwer Beaufays, previously revealed that Lomar is set to launch an abaya line alongside its traditional thobes.
Beyond that, Lomar has launched a young designer contest entitled “Eye on Talent” to help independent and aspiring fashion designers start their careers in Saudi Arabia. Lomar’s Marketing Manager, Abubakr Alkaf, explained to Style.com/Arabia that the competition will be held once a year. “The aim of this contest is to keep an eye on talents, to give young designers access to a new media platform, and also provide the opportunity for a job offer from well-known brands in the Gulf area.” The winner will be awarded with a fashion course at the Instituto Europeo di Design in Milan.
The jury for Lomar’s contest will gather on June 21st to determine 10 finalists from a group of 50 candidates selected from the broader pool of applicants. Applications are being accepted until May 31st; candidates are required to be based in Saudi Arabia, to be less than 35 years old, and to have marketed their collection previously, or at least to have prior experience of 2 years working in the fashion industry. The finalists are expected to exhibit their designs for the contest’s final round on September 1st.
The jury panel will include Mona Al-Haddad (Co-Founder and Head of Design at Lomar), Hala Alharithy (Fashion Consultant and Stylist), Dina Kattan (Fashion Design Program Director at Dar Al-Hekma University), Reem Faisal (Founder of Reem Faisal Bridal & Creative Director of EVE Center), and Rana Ismail (Fashion Designer and Board Member of Libra Company), among others.
