Opera singer is surprise star at Giambattista Valli’s postshow supper
Caviar Kaspia was packed with well-wishers at Giambattista Valli‘s dinner last night. After a particularly alta fashion show, there were more air kisses than there were caviar eggs on the restaurant’s famous baked potatoes. Among the familiar names, Bianca Brandolini D’Adda and Suzy Menkes flanked the Italian couturier, and Franca Sozzani sat opposite him. Trussardi’s Umit Benan and Schiaparelli’s Farida Khelfa held court in the other room. But it was an unpredictable face that made the biggest impression. The Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo is handsome enough to turn heads without even opening his mouth. When he serenaded Valli, the entire table hushed to listen, even the notoriously loquacious Brant boys. According to an Italian speaker, he was singing about conquering, and, trust us, he’d won over more than a few ladies by the time he uttered his last note.
