It would appear that American popstar Kelly Rowland has a true love story with Arab fashion. For the 2013 Bafta La Jaguar Britannia Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, Rowland chose to wear yet another Arab designer on the red carpet.
Rowland appeared in a silky and sequined, inverted peplum evening gown, designed by Lebanese Couture designer, Rani Zakhem. It is not the first time that the musician and TV personality has supported Arab designers. She has previously been spotted wearing Couture creations by Syrian designer, Rami Al Ali, Lebanese designers, Elie Saab, Georges Hobeika, and Georges Chakra, as well as, Tunisian Couturier, Azzedine Alaïa.
In a conversation with Style.com/Arabia, Rowland’s stylist, Joel Dash, confirmed that the popstar has a preference for Arab aesthetics. “We absolutely love Middle Eastern designers,” noted Dash. “Alaïa, Georges Chakra, and Elie Saab are a few of our favorites. It’s that Arabian allure. They incorporate so much value and culture into their clothes, which Kelly especially loves.”
At the 2013 Billboard Awards, Rowland made a dazzling appearance wearing a Rami Al Ali Spring 2013 Couture evening gown, embossed with mirrored sequins. She also opted for a laser-cut mermaid gown by Georges Chakra earlier this year at the 2013 Grammy Awards. At a previous Grammy Awards edition, in 2007, she wore a golden sequined silk chiffon dress by Elie Saab.
“What fascinates us most about Middle Eastern designers has to be the way they externally channel so much creativity into looks for the runways. How their minds are so limitless. They’ve added so much to the Western fashion scene – with the most obvious being the turban, caftan, and hareem pant, which Kelly loved wearing during 2011-2012,” Dash added.
Rowland just released her 12-track album, Talk A Good Day, which features collaborations with Beyoncé, Michelle Williams, and Wiz Khalifa. She is currently on tour throughout the U.S.
