Vogue and Vanity Fair photographer, Tinko Czetwertynski, is behind Isolda’s new Ready-to-Wear campaign, set in an exotic, yet twisted scenery.
“We shot the campaign on the coast of Brazil, with model, Amanda França. Baptiste Demay was the Art Director for this shoot, and Mel Freese did the makeup, Czetwertynski explained to Style.com/Arabia. “We wanted to explore the nature of tropically —without being too obvious, so we went for a painted wall of vegetation to show how the clothes draw inspiration from nature.”
Brazilian womenswear, jewelry, and swimwear brand, Isolda, was founded in 2011 by Alessandra Affonso Ferreira, a London-based architect and textile designer trained at Chelsea College of Art and Design. Half-British herself, Affonso Ferreira mixes edgy British aesthetics with tropical Brazilian digital prints.
“Alessandra paints all the prints in watercolor, and that blank sheet of textured watercolor paper was a big part of the inspiration. We also did the Baiana shot, which is a style that you have in the North Eastern part of Brazil—more specifically in Bahia, where Alessandra comes from—but with an edge,” added the photographer, referring to the tutti-frutti printed casual cocktail dress. Salvador da Bahia is influenced by African cultures, it is therefore no wonder that Isolda shares affinities with traditional North-African fashion; including turban-inspired headwear design.
The Brazilian fashion brand was previously introduced to the international market with a trunk show on Moda Operandi and will exhibit its latest Spring 2014 collection in Paris, Place Vendôme, from September 27th to October 2nd during Paris Fashion Week.
As for upcoming activities in the Gulf, speaking to Style.com/Arabia, Affonso Ferreira hinted at a possible trip in the near future, “Our friend, Aljawhara Al-Mahdi, the owner of Boutique N in Kuwait, is planning something very special to host us…”
