Hedi Slimane in Doha: Why This Could be Big News for the Fashion Industry

He just exited his role as creative director from storied French fashion house Saint Laurent, and yet, Hedi Slimane might already have his sights on launching his own label. The French-Tunisian designer and photographer was spotted in Doha, Qatar at the offices of investment capital firm Mayhoola, in what could have been a bid to secure investors to launch his eponymous label. Mayhoola is the Qatari venture firm that owns Valentino Fashion Group S.p.A. and Italian menswear brand Pal Zileri. It also holds a stake in British accessories label Anya Hindmarch, which is currently looking to expand its luxury portfolio.

This is not the designer’s first attempt at launching a label under his name. Slimane previously liased with Kering to launch his brand, however the venture took a backseat when he was appointed creative director for Christian Dior’s menswear line Dior Homme in 2000, ahead of his four years at the helm of Saint Laurent.
