The Internet was abuzz yesterday with rumors about Alessandro Michele’s reported new role as the creative director of Gucci. Now the Italian fashion house has confirmed they were true. Formerly the brand’s head accessories designer, Michele will succeed Gucci’s longtime creative director Frida Giannini, who left abruptly just last week. As Marco Bizzarri, president and chief executive officer of Gucci, told WWD, “After a considered and thorough selection process, Alessandro Michele has been chosen to assume the role as Gucci creative director, based upon the contemporary vision he has articulated for the brand that he will now bring to life.” Hints of this refreshed vision emerged just a few days ago, when Michele presented Gucci’s menswear collection in Milan. Only five days after Giannini’s unexpected early departure, Michele and his team altered each and every detail (including the model casting and seating chart). Considering Michele’s first collection for women’s will be the Fall 2015 season in Milan on February 25, we don’t have long to wait to see what else he has in store.
