Head over to Style.com today and you will see that an exciting new format has been introduced—a channel unto its own really, titled “Style Map”. Featuring “daily dispatches from the global scene with 60+ contributors from 30+ cities” this new culture hub unites this select group of jet setters under one roof with photo reportage styled news posts about the latest finds and experiences.
The Style Map is only the site’s first phase of a larger initiative for global domination as this Fall, Style.com will also launch “a community platform”.
In 2011, Style.com Editor in Chief, Dirk Standen interviewed the recently retired Vogue Paris Editor in Chief, Carine Roitfeld, on the subject of print magazines versus the Internet, and Roitfeld shared, “Ten years ago we never thought we were going to have a Vogue in China, and it’s one of the most successful Vogues, so if you’re not moving, you’re dead. Maybe it’s about going to other countries, to find another way to be interesting in fashion, to talk to a wider audience.”
With the launch of Style Map, it would appear that Standen and Roitfeld were on the same page. In his own words, introducing Style Map, Dirk Standen writes:
Welcome to Style Map, a new endeavor in which we aim to share and spotlight the energy of the global scene. New trends and new scenes are constantly emerging in cities across the world, everywhere from Tokyo to Berlin to Sydney to Lagos, Nigeria, the launchpad for one of the more exciting new fashion lines. With Style Map, we aim to bring you the latest in art, music, food, fashion, and more via bulletins from over sixty contributors in over thirty cities…We’d like to put a face to globalization and not just leave that term in the hands of economists or politicians.
The contributors submit dispatches from their work and life, covering areas that include Food, Travel, Shopping, Fashion, Art, Culture, Design, Nightlife, and Music.
At Style.com/Arabia we are happy to see D’NA boutique owner, Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, featured. She shares news of her Summer holiday in Tuscany and gives a shoutout to Saudi designer, Reem Al Kanhal.
