Most thought John Galliano would never be back on the runway after the 2011 scandal that saw him lose his job as Creative Director at Dior and stripped of his Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, France’s highest honor. Sometimes, it takes another visionary and veteran of the fashion industry to scoop in and help a disgraced designer to get back on his feet. WWD has just revealed that Oscar de la Renta has invited Galliano to take up residence at his New York City studio for a three-week period.
“John and I have known each other for many years and I am a great admirer of his talent. He has worked long and hard on his recovery and I am happy to give him the opportunity to reimmerse himself in the world of fashion and reacclimate in an environment where he has been so creative.” Oscar de la Renta told WWD. When asked if worried about any potential backlash, de la Renta reminds us that life is about forgiveness, “I think John is doing all the right things. Everyone in life deserves a second chance, especially someone as talented as John. I think that life is about forgiving and helping people… I think John is doing all the right things.”
