Galliano: Lost Treasure

gallianoJohn Galliano has won the first round in what promises to be a long drawn out courtroom battle between himself and former employer, Christian Dior, and his eponymous fashion house. What really caught our attention, however, was that the lid was lifted off confidential contract details and we got an inside peak into what a Creative Director of Galliano proportions earns—or, earned, rather.

As detailed on WWD, as the Creative Director of Christian Dior Couture, John Galliano cleared a fixed gross annual salary of USD$1.3 million dollars, as well as a further variable compensation of up to USD$906,400, and a percentage linked to annual sales rise. Galliano, whose flamboyant style sometimes bordered on pirate glorification, also had an annual clothing budget of USD$38,850 and a grooming budget for personal appearances of USD$77,700. With these figures now in the public domain, one can better gauge the House of Dior’s reaction to Galliano’s now infamous, foul-mouthed rant. Further to which, Galliano also earned a fixed salary of USD$2.6 million as artistic director of his own brand and a percentage linked to a decrease in annual losses. That contract also included an annual clothing budget of USD$90,650.

In moments like these, one can’t help but wonder what Raf Simmons might be thinking. Time for a raise, perhaps?
