In an initiative to support the “Dubai Vision 2020” plans for the tourism sector, endorsed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the company Majid Al Futtaim Holding announced a major expansion of the Mall of the Emirates, including a new fashion district and a sport and leisure area.

“Evolution 2015 is Mall of the Emirates’ most ambitious project to-date with a total investment of US$272 million,” explained Dimitri Vazelakis, Executive Managing Director of Majid Al Futtaim Properties, which currently owns and operates 16 shopping malls and 11 hotels in the MENA region.

It would be the Mall’s second expansion since it opened its doors in 2005, following the launch of the Fashion Dome in 2010 – a space dedicated to 80 luxury brands. As of 2012, almost half of the retail stores in the Mall of the Emirates were dedicated to fashion, with 44% of the Mall’s total sales coming from the fashion category.

The new expansion is expected to be unveiled in early 2014, and will feature more than 30 luxury and high-fashion brands, alongside several upscale dining options. By 2015, another area will follow, introducing up-and-coming brands that make their debut in the UAE, as well as revamped boutiques of luxury brands already present within the Mall of the Emirates.

“The new fashion district will support the Emirates’ wider aspirations towards Dubai Fashion 2020, and will define a new meeting point for our visitors, positioning MOE at the forefront of the region’s fashion retail industry,” added Vazelakis.

In the meantime, more fashion can be enjoyed at Mall of the Emirates, as the leading luxury shopping destination announced the third season of its World of Fashion-event, from October 3rd to 14th, featuring a highly expected appearance of Lebanese pop-singer Nancy Ajram, who will host the event’s closing party. Moreover, twenty runway shows, featuring the latest international collections, as well as style talks with reputed designers are expected – the exact schedule and participants will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

“Events such as World of Fashion lend support for Dubai Fashion 2020 and promoting Dubai as the next global fashion hub, and Mall of the Emirates is pleased to be a contributing force in raising the spotlight of the Emirate’s fashion potential”, added Fuad Mansoor Sharaf, Senior Director for Majid Al Futtaim Properties.
