From Backyard Trunk Shows to Moda Operandi: Mochi Debuts Pre-Fall 2016 Collection

Dubai-based brand Mochi debuted its Pre-Fall 2016 collection on luxury e-commerce website Moda Operandi today. The collection, which is now available on the website for pre-order for two consecutive weeks, consists of dresses and separates featuring the brand’s signature ethnic embroidery and hand-crafted materials and pays homage to Jaipur, Spain, Uzbekistan, and Palestine. The move represents a giant step for the brand. Its founder and designer Ayah Tabari concurs telling Style.com/Arabia, “Being featured on a platform like Moda Operandi and exposed to its clientele is a big thing. I am incredibly happy and so excited that Moda is the first to reveal our Pre-Fall 2016 campaign.”

Known for its vibrant campaign imagery, this time, the brand surprised with a minimal approach and drew inspiration from a rundown loft in Brooklyn. Tabari explained the campaign’s direction to Style.com/Arabia stating, “We cut production right back for this shoot as we want people to see the embroidery for its raw beauty—it looks beautiful even on a blank canvas.”

Celebrating artisanal craftsmanship and supporting local communities, the colorful collection takes shape in the form of feminine off-the-shoulder, bell-sleeved, silhouettes featuring Spanish-embroidered floral motifs; patterned suede-fringed skirts and dresses; and versatile embroidered separates coupled with denim.
