Seeing Christopher Kane or Azzedine Alaïa front-row at Dior isn’t too much of a shock—European designers tend to turn up at one another’s shows thanks to the geographic proximity. But this Paris fashion week has brought a bit of a change: Both Donna Karan and Diane von Furstenberg made the 3,500-mile trek to take in the collections. Karan sat front-row at Alber Elbaz’s homage to his Moroccan heritage at Lanvin yesterday, while von Furstenberg appeared at Raf Simons’ Dior presentation this morning. While it’s not a usual occurrence to see American designers at Paris shows, it’s a good sign for the industry. As the Beatles put it so succinctly, we get by with a little help from our friends.
