Suzy Menkes’ opinion article “The Circus of Fashion” for T Magazine had many an Editor nodding in approval that someone had finally stated the obvious about the growing mania surrounding fashion week street style. Now, coming off of a month of fashion shows spanning four cities, Dasha Zhukova, Editor in Chief of Garage Magazine presents a short documentary-styled film which puts the focus on the growing (out of control) culture. Among others, “Take My Picture” features interviews with Susie Bubble, Phil Oh, and Style.com’s Tim Blanks. In the humorous and thought-provoking short, Blanks comments that he feels embarrassed for those who partake in the whole scene, while Hanneli Mustaparta hypocritically swears that she never dresses for the shows with the intention of getting snapped—while her actions speak otherwise. But while the editing obviously sways opinion in one direction, up and coming designer Vika Gazinskaya brings up a valid point: street style blogs offer a platform for young designers to showcase their products on an international level.
