By now, you’ve probably heard that Kim Kardashian has released an emoji app, which is a brilliant idea. Firstly, how exciting to finally be able to showcase your latest Louis Vuitton Malle or Céline bag purchase in a cartoonish form. Secondly, this app will probably please the hardcore fans and some users—like myself— that would love to use it in an ironic way. Brilliant indeed, Kim K seems to know exactly what people want. But don’t get too excited; the app might be number one on the charts today, but it is only available on the US store. I, however, found a way around it and managed to get a co-worker’s Apple ID to download the Kimoji app.

After going through some unsettling manipulations—adding the keyboard, authorizing all access on my phone by going back and forth to my settings (time of the operation: seven minutes)—I was finally able to send my first Kimoji on Whatsapp. Turns out that the app doesn’t actually give you the same result as the classic flamenco dancer or donut emoji; it just puts a very pixelated photo in your clipboard that can be copied onto your conversation—disappointing, to say the least. So, if you are trying to find a way into the US store to buy the much-hyped Kimoji, stop right there and maybe wait for the real deal. Save your US $1.99 and get yourself ice cream instead.
