At first glance, the ropey twists and turns that laid the foundation for Donatella Versace’s Atelier Versace collection reminded of Zaha Hadid’s organic architecture. Specifically, the aerial view of the out-of-this-world Performing Arts Center being built in Abu Dhabi appeared to be mapped out on several of the body-hugging, floor-skimming dresses. In fact, the sinewy, intertwined ropes were intended to highlight “athletic couture.” This was a collection that burst with both spurts of color—orange and lemon neon and cobalt blue—and Versace’s typical line-up of mega models, including Irina Shayk, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Natasha Poly, Joan Smalls, Mariacarla Boscono, Jamie Bochert, and closer Gigi Hadid. If there were ever a couture collection that one should train for, this is it.
