10 Things to Know About Chanel’s Latest Resort Show

Welcome to Karl’s candy shop. Today at Seoul’s Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Lagerfeld and co. presented one of Chanel’s most exuberant Resort collections in recent memory, a Technicolor mishmash of new and old that seemed fairly tailor-made for Instagram. From the set to the celebs to the accessories, we’ve rounded up 10 things you need to know about Chanel Resort ’16.
1. First things first: Gisele made the trek to Korea. The Lagerfeld favorite may be in something of an is-she-isn’t-she retirement limbo, but she certainly looked as good as ever in pre-show snaps, like this one from our very own Tim Blanks.

2. By no means was Gisele the only celeb on the scene, though. Tilda Swinton and Isabelle Huppert both sat front-row, but among the most pleasant surprises was a lately lower-profile Kristen Stewart, who turned up bewitching in a gothy garden dress from Chanel Spring ’16 Couture.

3. Color, color, color. Here was an outing colorful enough to rival the house’s Spring ’14 fare—and with a set to match. Guests perched on candy-hued seats, while catwalkers made their way across a Twister-like, rainbow-spotted floor.

4. In general, Resort ’16 found Karl hitting the quirk factor full throttle. Mary-Janes were sported with socks, accessories went stacked, and there was a lot of maximalist joie de vivre on the whole (dare we say it, a dash of Bedford Avenue Granny?).

5. Among those accessories: a fluoro pink, box-shaped take on the house’s iconic 2.55 that’s sure to be topping a lot of wish lists.

6. Also key to the Resort girl’s look: larger-than-life, Leia-esque buns and braids worn intentionally clashing with models’ natural hair colors.

7. Gisele, Kristen, and Tilda aside, we’d wager (and a quick survey of social media would back us up) that the celebs here who really stole the show were the array of K-stars, from G-Dragon and CL to Park Shin Hye and Im Yoona.

8. Karl paid homage to his latest destination with Chanel-esque nods to Korean traditional dress, like this simple and stunning pale-pink take on a hanbok, sported by closer Ji Hye Park.

9. Another nice touch? The confectionary mini carnival Chanel organized for local kids outside of Dongdaemun, in honor of Children’s Day, which is celebrated nationally tomorrow.

10. But when the time came for a more grown-up party (the show’s after-bash is no doubt still carrying on), Karl did it as only Chanel would—with those famous camellias.
