See Chanel’s “Reincarnation” Video

Setting the tone for the Chanel Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 Métiers d’art show, which took place yesterday, Karl Lagerfeld debuted his short film “Reincarnation” on December 1st, 2014 in Salzburg before friends of the Maison and Chanel ambassadors including Caroline de Maigret, Rooney Mara, Alice Dellal, and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey.

The special preview took place during a private dinner hosted in the courtyard of a Benedictine monastery—one of Europe’s oldest, and now turned restaurant—the St. Peter Stiftskeller.

The video clip conjures a significant moment in the life of Gabrielle Chanel, played once again with brio by Geraldine Chaplin.

In the short film set in 1954, the designer is seen vacationing in Salzburg where she encounters a hotel bell-boy, played by singer-producer Pharrell Williams, who also composed and wrote the lyrics to the clip’s soundtrack CC the World. As narrated in the movie, his work uniform went on to spark the inspiration behind the iconic Chanel jacket.

German-born Lagerfeld commented of his stellar cast list, “None of this would have been possible without Pharrell Williams, Cara Delevingne, and Geraldine Chaplin. It’s the perfect cast. Pharrell is a genius and Geraldine at her best in the role of Gabrielle Chanel in the year of her comeback.”
