Farfetch buys Browns…

More changes are under way on the e-tail front. E-commerce giant Farfetch announced its acquisition of iconic London boutique Browns today. The move will aid Farfetch in its growth strategy to “develop a global technology platform that will shape the retail experience of the future,” as per a statement. Joan Burstein, Browns’ founder, said, “We are delighted to be able to announce that this is the next step for Browns, and we couldn’t think of a better, more forward-thinking partner to take the reins and respond to the challenges of the future.”

Changes in Milan…

This morning, Carlo Capas, the new president of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, announced that there will be changes coming to Milan fashion week. Capas explained the Camera is aiming to create special events and introduce ways to nurture new talent. He also announced new initiatives that will debut during the men’s shows this June: There will be a “fashion train” from Pitti Uomo in Florence to the men’s collections in Milan; organized tours of the Prada and Armani museums will be offered; and a “fashion week concierge” will help tourists discover events throughout the city. Dr. West…

Kayne West received an honorary doctorate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago yesterday. Upon the presentation of the degree, West made an uncharacteristically modest speech about the humbling experience. The rapper confessed, “I felt my nerves a bit. I don’t feel that feeling a lot. The nerves of humility and modesty when being honored, a humanization of a reality of being recognized…this honor is going to make your lives easier for two reasons: You don’t have to defend me as much! And I’m going to make all of our lives easier.” [Time]

It’s a mobile world…

In a world first, Indian fashion e-commerce site Myntra is planning to become a mobile-only shopping portal. As of May 15, Myntra will completely shut down its website; customers will then be able to access the store through its mobile app only. Though this may seem like a drastic measure, the retailer currently receives 95 percent of its traffic and 70 percent of its revenue through the app. Said cofounder Sachin Bansal, “India is trying to get ahead of the rest of the world in technology adoption.” [Forbes]
