For the first time, the eighth edition of Art Dubai, held at the Madinat Jumeirah, will be segmented into three gallery sections—Contemporary, the largest section of the fair, with more than 70 galleries of contemporary art; Modern, a space dedicated to Middle Eastern and South Asian modern art from the twentieth century; and Marker, a curated section of galleries focusing on art from Central Asia and the Caucasus. Fair Director, Antonia Carver, announced the participation of 85 art galleries from 34 countries, which will put the works of more than 500 artists on display. “We’re aiming to welcome even more visitors than the 25,000 that walked through the doors in 2013,” commented Carver.
Alongside the gallery halls, several art projects will spice up the general program, such as Art Dubai Projects, an exhibition by winners of The Abraaj Group Art Prize that will include site-specific installations of 12 participating artists from the Middle East, North Africa and Asia, curated by Fawz Cabra.
Once again, the 4-day event for contemporary and modern art will be held under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai, and will run in partnership with The Abraaj Group, sponsored by Cartier and Emaar.
