Designer Raghda Taryam Among Those Honored at the 2015 Arab Woman Awards UAE

The 2015 Arab Woman Awards UAE, held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan and in partnership with Net-A-Porter , celebrated 20 inspirational women from across the UAE during an elegant ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton in Dubai’s DIFC. Since its inception in 2009, the Arab Woman Awards has served as a platform to publicly honor hardworking and game-changing women from the UAE, Saudi Arabia , Kuwait, and Qatar, who are leaders in their respective fields, such as literature, art, medicine, fashion design, and humanitarian efforts.

Among this year’s honorees was H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Zayed bin Saqr Al Nahyan, who was recognized for her humanitarian work with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. May Nasrallah, the CEO and founder of deNovo, a corporate finance advisory firm established in 2009, was awarded Businesswoman of the Year. Meanwhile, Jumana Al Darwish took home the award for Entrepreneur of the Year for The Happy Box, a monthly themed subscription box filled with educational activities for children. Sharjah-based kaftan and abaya designer Raghda Taryam took home the fashion designer award for her label Kanzi, which can be found at Saks Fifth Avenue (Dubai) as well as Selfridges & Co. and Harrods (London). The UAE’s Inspirational Woman of the Year title was given to Prof. Rafia Obaid Ghubash, who is responsible for opening “Bait Al Banat” (House of Girls), the first museum and cultural center in the UAE that is dedicated to the accomplishments of women in the region.

The awards deliberation was conducted by an all-female judging panel, which included returning members H.E. Ameera Abdulrahim Binkaram, the chairperson of Sharjah Business Women Council and chairperson and founding member of Friends of Cancer Patients; SME Advisory Group owner, Nadine Maalouf; Noor Dubai Foundation’s CEO, Dr. Manal Taryam; and celebrated Emirati artist Najat Meky. Newcomers to the jury included Hello! Arabia editor Gina Tadros; Leap Ventures’ partner, Noor Sweid; Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s court director, Dr. Mona Hammami; Abraaj Group partner and chief investment officer, Huda Al Lawati; and Virgin Megastore Middle East president, Nisreen Shokair.
