2013 Arab Woman Awards: Winners Announced

The Arab Woman Awards 2013 winners have been announced at a ceremony held at the Rosewood Hotel in Abu Dhabi on December 10th.

Held under the Patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al-Nahayan, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Community Development, the awards were given to 16 winners from various industries, such as business, education, literature, art, and fashion.

The top three awards were awarded to Muna Al Gurg (Business Woman of the Year), Bedour Al Raqbani (Education), and Sheikha Hoor Bint Sultan (Arts). Notably, Sheikha Madiyah Al Sharqi was named, Fashion Designer of the Year.

It is such an honor to have won the Fashion Designer of the Year award at the Arab Woman awards. Not only is it so gratifying for my work to be acknowledged and awarded, but the fact that I am being recognized as a successful Arab woman is ever more of an honor,” Al Sharqi told Style.com/Arabia.

Further top winners include Her Highness Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, who was acknowledged as UAE’s Inspirational Arab Woman of the Year, and Her Highness Sheikha Sheikha Bint Saif Al Nahyan, who received the Humanitarian of the Year award for her dedication as the President of the Make A Wish Foundation. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Her Excellency Raja Al Gurg, Managing Director of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group.

As a young country the UAE has achieved and exceeded global expectations and continues to push forward competing with international and more matured nations. Women are at the forefront of this achievement,” stated Al Gurg.

The Arab Woman Awards have been held since 2009 in the UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait, and have recognized over 165 women thus far. Next year’s ceremony will be in Saudi Arabia.
