All Aboard! Culture Chanel

afficheCantonHDFor those heading to Guangzhou, China over the next few months, take a stop at the Opera House for the latest Culture Chanel exhibition. Affectionately referred to as the “double pebble”, the Opera House designed by Iraqi architect, Zaha Hadid, will house an exhibition based on the links between Chanel and the arts, focusing on the 1924 ballet produced by Russian ballet impresario, Serge Diaghilev, Le train bleu (The Blue Train). To tell the story of the années folles (1920s in France), Jean Cocteau was commissioned as the librettist, Pablo Picasso for the program and backdrop, and Mademoiselle Chanel as the costume designer.
The exhibition develops around five themes that fortify the creative universe and values of Chanel: breathe, move, love, dream, and invent. 400 works, including photographs, drawings, paintings, manuscripts, books, films, and fashion creations evoke these themes and lead the visitors on a journey that ends with the colossal Picasso backdrop—the artist’s largest work that measures roughly 10 by 12 meters. Among the pieces exhibited, visitors can also view thirty previously unseen drawings by Pablo Picasso along with drawings by Amadeo Modigliani.

From January 16th to March 3rd
