Al Quoz, an industrial district and a rising cultural hub in Dubai, will soon launch Street Night Art (SNA), an outdoor art event that will focus on street art by emerging artists from the Middle East and beyond. Founded by Al Quoz Projects, a community project promoting public art in Dubai, the first edition of Street Night Art will showcase a line-up of both local and international artists in an outdoor gallery event on January 24th, from 6pm to midnight.
“We envision a neighborhood where a record of our local and regional artists are permanently marked in the public landscape,” explained Alex Teodoresco, one of the organizers of SNA, to Style.com/Arabia.
The event will feature 63 artists and include a display of selected art pieces for sale, an air-brush live-painting session, break-dance competitions, beat boxing, open-mic sessions, and cello and drum performances. The art pieces created during the evening will be available for sale. “There will be two stages where the programming will be handled by The Fridge [a Dubai-based music agency] and the other by Deep Crates Cartel [a Dubai-based street-art and DJ collective]. To finish off, any visitor who would like to try out as a painter will be able to do so at the pop up studio set up by The JamJar [a Dubai-based gallery for contemporary art].”
“We hope that it will show that urban art can beautify a city, give it a special feel, and that it will become a nest of urban creativity. There were no strict criteria of selection to keep it open to as many artist from the simple amateur to the most sophisticated professional,” Teodoresco added.
The initiative is supported by Arabtec Holding, an engineering and construction group, and is scheduled as a part of Dubai’s Shopping Festival. Dubai’s first Street Night Art event will take place along 4B Street from Time Square to 15th Street, in the Al Quoz district.
