2014 Grammys: All Lights (and Eyes) On Beyoncé

Mr. and Mrs. Shawn Carter (more popularly known as Jay-Z and Beyoncé) impressed quite a few people during yesterday’s 56th Grammy Awards, held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles—Beatles singer, Paul McCartney included, who was spotted in the audience dancing along to Beyoncé’s performance.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z kicked off the 2014 edition of the Grammy Awards with a dramatic performance of Beyonce’s Drunk in Love track from her self-titled album. Dressed in a pair of Saint Laurent black tights with a custom bra by La Perla and a Nichole de Carle body suit, Beyonce performed her song while twirling in a chair, and was then joined by Jay-Z on stage.

In a conversation with Style.com/Arabia, luxury lingerie designer Nichole de Carle shared her insights on her collaboration with Queen Bey. “We had an idea to customize something exclusive for Beyonce,” Carle explained. “Our production affinities in London allow us to produce bespoke pieces very quickly, even on the 48-hour short notice that we had. The idea was to create a very strong signature piece inspired by architecture, which carries our Art Deco patterned design lines and yet comes along in soft, body-embracing fabrics.”

Once she was off the stage, the singer swapped her Nichole de Carle outfit for a flowery, white, floor-skimming lace evening gown by Michael Costello, a designer who had his break-through on Season 8 of the American TV show Project Runway. The figure-hugging, bareback, mermaid dress perfectly matched her short curly hair and berry red lips.

Costello has made a name for himself for his body-embracing statement numbers, and also dressed other celebrities for the occasion, including pop-singer Skylar Grey, who showed off a nude leather gown.
