There’s no cozier place in New York City to have dinner on a winter night than the nook at the back of Locanda Verde. That was the thinking as Style.com teamed up with MyTheresa to throw a “welcome to fashion week” bash—let’s just cram that brick-walled room with friends and make the tables groan with cheese and salumi, roast chicken and pasta. Mission very much accomplished: Alexa Chung, Gia Coppola, Olympic snowboarder Shaun White (presumably more equipped to deal with the city’s frigid temperatures than most), Frankie Rayder, and Francisco Costa were among the pals who braved the bitter weather to gird their loins ahead of the shows. Amid the fabulous menfolk on hand, perhaps none was more fab than MyTheresa buyer (and mega street-style star) Justin O’Shea, who pointed out, as he gave his toast, that this was the e-tailer’s first event since its acquisition last fall by Neiman Marcus. Thus did NM honchos Linda Fargo, Ken Downing, and Joshua Schulman number among the dinner guests; it was one big happy retail family, tucking in to a meal served family-style, appropriately enough.
“You guys have got the really hard job,” Style.com editor in chief Dirk Standen said to O’Shea, as he followed him with a toast of his own. “We just write about the clothes. You’ve got to sell the clothes.” Much clinking of glasses ensued, though no doubt model Binx Walton couldn’t help but think that her job was no catwalk in the park, either, and designers such as Phillip Lim considered the heaps of work yet to be done back at the studio. In the meantime, though, there was pasta on deck and waiters refilling wine glasses before they could be discovered empty. Another season in the fashion trenches awaits. We’re ready.
