Welcome to Karlie’s: The Supermodel Teams Up With Frame Denim for an Empire Diner Takeover

Karlie Kloss is on a 1970s kick. Last month she starred in the disco-fever comeback video for Nile Rodgers and Chic, and last night she launched her second Frame Denim Forever Karlie capsule collection by serving up a ’70s-inspired party at Chelsea’s iconic Empire Diner. Guests looking for a greasy spoon, however, were disappointed. The Empire served up a Kloss-ified take on retro diner fare: coconut and almond milkshakes, kale chips, and sweet potato fries. Kloss walked around, tray in hand, and offered guests avocado toasts.

“Just look at her,” said Frame cofounder Jens Grede. “She has an amazing spirit, such energy, and she really is fashion. That’s what makes her a Frame girl.” Grede’s cofounder Erik Torstensson said that Kloss is a surprisingly diligent creative collaborator. He said, “I’ve done a lot of collaborations before in other ways, and I was really surprised by how much time Karlie gave us to work on this. It really is Karlie’s product. She is so smart about what she likes to wear and what the customer needs to wear. Frame always has one foot in the ’70s—the women were so beautiful and feminine, a real straight man’s woman!—and Karlie just ran with that.”

So what is it about the disco decade that Kloss loves so much? She told us, “My mom was actually a total babe in the ’70s, so growing up my sisters and I would always fight over her amazing vintage pieces. Of course, I was a little taller, so I couldn’t wear some of the pants! But there’s something about that decade that always resonates with my style: simple, all-American, a plain T-shirt with a perfect jean, but totally beautiful.”
