Mary J. Blige, Chanel Iman, and More Celebrate Dsquared2’s New Soho Store

Twenty years after showing their first men’s collection, Dsquared2’s Dean and Dan Caten have finally opened a U.S. flagship in Soho on West Broadway and Spring. But if the abundance of supporters packed into the store for last night’s grand opening cocktail was any indication, the brand’s delay was not for a lack of fans. Even Mary J. Blige stopped in to browse through some sunglasses, and greet the twin Canadian designers. “We took our time to arrive here in order to make sure we were ready to arrive,” Dan told Style.com. “With 20 years under our belt, we’ve built a great team and gotten the formulas right. It’s like a Canadian lumberyard-meets-Italian industry. It’s a refined wave to our country. And now we are ready to take on this country.”

With two decades in the business comes plenty of memories. So when the party moved to an intimate dinner at Indochine later on, Chanel Iman started reminiscing about her relationship with the brand: “I’ve been working with Dsquared2 since I was 16; they have the craziest shoots. And they always put me in short little dresses like they have me in tonight! I usually prefer to be a little more covered. But for Dean and Dan, I’ll go short—it makes me feel sexy for the night.”

“We can’t help it,” Dan said. “She looks so good! Chanel closed our Charlie’s Angels show a few seasons ago, did this pose at the end, and everyone just went crazy.” After dinner, the brothers Caten led a spirited round of dancing that lasted until well after midnight.
