Dima Ayad

It has been a circuitous journey for Dima Ayad, who has struggled the past few seasons with collections that were ultimately underwhelming. But the designer, whose motto is “dressing everyone for every occasion” and who cites Diane Von Fürstenberg as an inspiration, seems to have finally found it in her to get rid of her apprehensions and take more design risks, which paid off. A burgundy palette, the right fabric choices, and fringes did it for her.

The collection looked covetable: notably a fitted black and burgundy turtleneck dress with web-like wool knitting on the décolletage and sleeves; a white mesh with white sequin embroidery reminding of camouflage; and a monochrome coat with white fringes at the bottom. Sheath dresses with fringes and numbers featuring a body contouring sequined burgundy fabric will please the party girl who wants to stand out. We could have done without an ill-fitting pair of pants and its cropped top, but with this collection, Ayad showed that no matter the woman she wants to dress, to please her all she has to do is dare.
