Rami Kadi

Lebanon

After graduating from Esmod in 2008, Lebanese-American designer Rami Kadi worked with Maison Rabih Kayrouz; soon after, he was selected by the Starch Foundation to showcase his first collection. Following positive reviews for his work, in 2010 Kadi opened Madame Muguet, a multi-brand boutique offering his own creations as well as those of other Lebanese designers.

In May 2011, Kadi launched his own studio and opened his first boutique in the heart of Beirut. The designer isn’t restricted to one particular style; he has tried his hand at edgy silhouettes, fairy tale-inspired eveningwear, and arabesques and other archetypal elements of Arabic architecture. His designs have been seen on a number of celebrities, including model Shanina Shaik and singers Myriam Fares and Haifa Wehbe.

1. What does the Style.com/Arabia – DDFC Fashion Prize mean to you?

It means a new, powerful birth of our brand, huge visibility, and most importantly, recognition from the best fashion experts.

2. What message are you trying to convey with your designs?

The main message is that couture is a magical amalgam of traditional techniques and innovation. My purpose is to combine two different aspects of couture by keeping the authentic techniques while introducing a twist of fashion revolution.

3. Why do you think that you are best-suited to win the Fashion Prize?

I have conceived my work around producing unique pieces, both in technique and style. Winning the Fashion Prize would motivate new talents to think outside the box and pursue their ambitions and passions without having to conform to the “common, ideal criteria” of couture.

4. Which designer most inspires you?

Christian Dior.
