London College of Fashion graduate Dalia El Ali launched her womenswear label, Dee by Dalia, in 2013. This season, El Ali made her debut at Fashion Forward with a catwalk show to unveil a Fall 2016 offering that highlighted reworked closet staples with cutouts.
A play on the button-down shirt was a key style here, and the off-the-shoulder rendition with billowing sleeves will speak to the young woman looking to add an on-trend piece to her closet. The hyper-saturated, poppy red coordinating look with cutout culottes also made for a hip statement. However, the moon and star motifs felt like a forced nod to the Holy Month of Ramadan and the ruffled circle appliqués on a cold shoulder dress and long, flared skirt came across as fussy. In the end, this led to a general feeling that the designer struggled to translate a more focused collection for her muse.
