Colombian-born footwear designer of Aquazzura, Edgardo Osorio celebrated his 30th birthday this weekend in Florence, Italy. Osorio invited his international entourage of friends to the monumental 16th century palace, the Palazzo Corsini, for a lavish two-day event. The over-the-top affair kicked off on Friday with an eccentric jungle-themed bash followed by a grandiose surrealist ball on Saturday night.

On Friday, the founder and creative director of Paris-based clothing brand Racil, Racil Chalhoub made a grand entrance wearing a printed, floor-length Peter Dundas gown paired with a fantastical feather headpiece. Guests posed for photos with exotic, life-sized taxidermic tigers and zebras against a lush backdrop blooming with waxy, red Anthodium.

The following Saturday, friends and family were invited to an out-of-this-world ball, dubbed the “Surreal Life,” at the ancient palace situated on the Lungarno Corsini overlooking the Arno River. Upon entering, guests—including former fashion model, Naty Abascal and Spanish actress and model Nieves Álvarez—were greeted by a pink, marbleized dinner table set with gold tableware. Notable tabletop accent pieces featured chattering-teeth place-card holders, eyeball-embroidered napkins, magnificent chandelier candles, and a gold lobster centerpiece floating above the flower arrangements. Guests were then treated to a delectable dinner before enjoying a live performance by Indian dancers.

But for all of the glamour and splendor, it was the extraordinary headpieces that made us look twice. Surreal head adornments were a required dress code, and attendees did not disappoint. Guests pulled out all of the stops, and paired jaw-dropping ball gowns and crisp tuxedos with fairytale headpieces and enchanting hair ornaments.  Alberto Oliveros—who opted for an extravagant feather headpiece adorned with butterflies to attend the soirée—chatted with Style.com/Arabia‘s Managing Editor Caterina Minthe once returning home to Dubai stating, “It was the party of the century.” Below, discover an array of photos from the lavish event that showcase the party’s most exquisite headpieces.
