Tonight’s Met Gala will see an array of celebrities take to the red carpet embracing this year’s Costume Institute theme, “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” This edition will challenge designers and stylists to dress their A-list clients in looks that merge white-tie dressing and technology.
Experimenting with technology is nothing new to most designers. Rami Kadi is one such talent who illuminated his Fall 2016 Couture with a glow-in-the-dark offering. The Style.com/Arabia – DDFC Fashion Prize class of 2015 finalist featured 3D embroidered insects, graphic beetle trimmings, and spiderweb patterns across gowns and separates that lit up with a green glow in dim lighting. Meanwhile, for his Fashion Prize capsule collection, the designer presented an all-white offering that revealed colorful chameleon motifs when exposed to sunlight. By combining traditional techniques with innovative materials, Rami Kadi Couture showcased technology in a forward-thinking and wearable way.
