Pregnant Pause: Our Favorite Moms-to-Be on the Runway

While lots of model moms have walked the runway in the early stages of their pregnancy, unbeknownst to the audience and, often, the designers, there’s something to be said about hitting the catwalk when you’re really showing. The first image that comes to mind is a seven-months-pregnant Ashleigh Goode closing Chanel Fall 2014 Haute Couture in a baroque wedding gown and shimmering cape. “I like pregnant women,” Karl Lagerfeld told Tim Blanks after the show. “She looks so elegant, so noble.” He wasn’t looking for a gimmick by casting Goode—he was simply embracing the natural beauty of motherhood.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana took the idea even further for their Fall 2015 collection, in which every detail was dedicated to la mamma. From gowns covered in prints and embroideries lifted from children’s drawings to several models walking hand in hand with their daughters, it was hands down the sweetest show of the season. “She’s always there—she’s the person you can always call,” Gabbana explained. Bianca Balti took our breath away in a baby-bump-hugging blush dress, Mary Jane pumps, and a glowing smile.
