Galvan’s Sleek Eveningwear

Cool, minimal, reasonably priced eveningwear. That was the thought that spurred Sola Harrison, Katherine Holmgren, Anna-Christin Haas, and Carolyn Hodler to start the London-based label Galvan. Founded in 2014, the brand specializes in elegant formal options for women adverse to fuss. (It won’t come as a shock that Gwyneth Paltrow is already among their fans.)

“All four of us partners, we had this constant problem of finding a beautiful eveningwear dress that isn’t 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 thousand dollars and that isn’t embellished or froufrou,” explained Harrison. “We wanted to make something that was modern, young, and fresh and thought it was a niche in the market that nobody was doing.” The result is a series of simple column gowns with minimal accents, sleek tuxedo jackets, and wide-leg jumpsuits that could work for day or evening, all at a price point less than $2,000.

While the cost might still be a little high for some, the pieces are produced of high-quality silks crepes and gazars in a London factory that also works with Erdem, Roland Mouret, and Victoria Beckham. “They’re used to working with really beautiful fabrics, and they have really fantastic construction,” Holmgren told Style.com, “so I think the quality you’re getting is great. Plus, there’s something really wonderful about working with local factories and local communities.”
