Exclusive: From Gossip Girl to Songstress, Leighton Meester Talks Style and Her Jimmy Choos

Leighton Meester may only be 28-years-old, but she has already achieved cult status thanks to her character, Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girls; but don’t pigeonhole the actress just yet as she has many more tricks up her sleeve. After her role in Country Strong and her Broadway debut in Of Mice and Men, she recently embarked on a singing career with the launch of her folk first record Heartstrings. Now, as she collaborates with Jimmy Choo for its Summer 2015 collection, she shares with us an exclusive look at her photo diary and muses about her personal style.

Tell us about your new music and album?
LEIGHTON MEESTER: I just got back from a tour for Heartstrings, my first record. I played in nine cities and am now planning another leg of more shows. Traveling for my music has been a really great experience. I’ve been working on the record for over two years, so I’m really pleased to finally tour and I’ve grown immensely because of it. It’s insanely fun performing my songs and it feels surreal interacting with the people who’ve heard it. It’s a confessional, a very personal record, and I’m really proud of every aspect.

What’s your red carpet style?
It varies, which is what I find most fun about getting dressed for an event. I like to experiment and change depending on mood, but comfort is what is most important to me.

What’s your off duty look?
Jeans and tees, jumpers, a jean jacket, a comfortable long skirt and sweater.

Who are your style icons?
Diane Keaton and Stevie Nicks.

What is your favorite summer holiday destination?
I love going to my hometown and being with my family in Florida. It’s off-season in summer when it’s hot, so it’s empty. We spend time on the boat and cook out and have beach and pool days.

What is your favorite summer song/tune?
I like Beach House, Mac DeMarco, and Joni Mitchell for breezy tunes.

If you could be in someone else’s shoes for the day whose would it be?
I look up to Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood, who speaks up for all women and our right to health care.
