Ladies of Qatar, do you have plans on December 9th? If so, cancel them. Anna Dello Russo is coming to Doha to celebrate the opening of the new Tory Burch boutique at the Lagoona Mall. The Italian style maven will meet guests at the boutique and share styling tips during the in-store party. In the video above, shot in her Milanese apartment, Dello Russo reveals her style rules amid her collection of covetable fashion treasures as she prepares for her Qatar visit.
Known for her unapologetic approach to fashion, Anna Dello Russo is a source of inspiration to many. Not only is her accessory game always on point, making her a magnet for street style photographers during Fashion Week, she also boasts three decades of experience in the industry. Her credentials include being the fashion editor at Vogue Italia, editor-in-chief of L’Uomo Vogue, and editor-at-large and creative consultant at Vogue Japan.
In an exclusive interview with Nouriah Al Shatti, she discusses her relationship with Tory Burch, her earliest memory of fashion, and her take on Middle Eastern women’s style.
NOURIAH AL SHATTI: How did your collaboration with Tory Burch come about?
ANNA DELLO RUSSO: I’ve personally known Tory for six years. I always attend her fashion shows in New York and meet her backstage. When she opened her boutique in Milan, we had the chance to talk more and we developed the idea of a collaboration.
How would you describe Middle Eastern women’s style?
When it comes to fashion, they are passionate and extreme, like me.
What is your definition of style?
Style is evolution. I don’t have a fixed style, as that would make it conformist.
Who is your fashion icon?
Carine Roitfeld [former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, and founder and editor-in-chief of CR Fashion Book].
Describe to us your earliest memory of fashion.
When I was a child, during a trip to Rome, I saw a photo shoot of Japanese people and I immediately realized that I would love to do that job.
Is there ever a time when you’re not dressed up?
Yes, when I am practicing yoga.
Can you share a style secret?
There are no secrets in style, only audacity.
Is it OK to wear last season?
Actually, I prefer to wear the next season’s collections.
Is it OK to wear the same label when going to the fashion show?
Yes, if I like the designers. I like to celebrate them by wearing their clothes.
What would you say to someone spotted wearing the same dress as you at a party?
You chose the right outfit.
What is your latest obsession?
The brand Vêtements.
