Dua’a Alghouti and Waed Asmar, the founders of Dubai-based label Anatomi, always knew that they would one day launch their own label. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in interior design and graphic design respectively, Alghouti and Asmar launched their brand in 2015. Now, with two collections of contemporary abayas and dresses under their belt, they unveil their first Ramadan and Eid collection at Bride Abu Dhabi 2016, which starts today and runs until April 16th at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
Inspired by diamonds, the Ramadan collection showcases loose-fitting silhouettes in contemporary cuts that come in a pastel palette of pink, blue, and green. Dimension is explored through geometric prints influenced by diamond facets, which can be found across abaya cuffs and the reverse sides of kaftan dresses. Speaking to Nouriah Al Shatti, creative director Dua’a Alghouti further explained the linear motif, saying, “It took us one month to draw the print by hand before printing it on the fabric. It was complicated, but it brings out Anatomi’s contemporary signature.” Embroidered crystal beads dusted across the lapels and pockets add a touch of glamour to the designs. “We wanted to add a little shine to the collection and create something special that can be worn for Eid, Ramadan, or weddings,” Alghouti revealed.
You won’t find any lace, floral threadwork, or trimmings in this offering. Alghouti confessed, “At Anatomi, less is more. Whenever I see an abaya that’s not weighed down with embellishments I think it looks more elegant.” By sourcing all their fabrics from Italy, Alghouti touched on their choice of materials to produce the collection. “The fabrics are light, but at the same time they’re not transparent. We use a variety of soft crepe materials to keep the person wearing the abayas cool during the summer,” she explained.
