Two months following the selection of the International Woolmark Prize (IWP) 2016 nominees for the India, Pakistan, and Middle East region, Saudi designer Reem Al Kanhal made her way to Mumbai, India to take part in the regional competition.
Once she touched down in the sprawling city, the ready-to-wear designer (behind her eponymous label) presented one look made from Merino wool, and a six-piece capsule concept to the judges. In between the presentations, Al Kanhal took the opportunity to explore the vibrant streets of Mumbai. “Here, there is a vibe that is difficult to put into words,” she explained to Style.com/Arabia. “Mumbai is a psychedelic medley of vibrant color and rich culture. If you don’t stay alert, you might miss something magical.” Al Kanhal described traveling via a colorful tuk tuk, whizzing motorcycles, and men ironing clothes in the street. Following her presentation, she took in Bungalow Eight boutique, which Al Kanhal describes as a must. “I love that they ask you to take off your shoes before you enter as a sign of respect,” she exclaimed before adding, “The city stole my heart.”
