First Look: Bouchra Jarrar’s Lanvin Resort 2017 Collection Debut

Alber Elbaz’s successor, Bouchra Jarrar, has unveiled a preview of the Lanvin Resort 2017 collection. The offering is Jarrar’s first since her appointment as creative director of the House of Lanvin in March earlier this year. The French designer (whose parents hail from the ancient city of Fez in Morocco) disclosed a sneak peek of the storied Parisian brand’s pre-spring offering in New York—ahead of the full reveal set to take place during Paris Couture Week next month. Showcasing ready-to-wear, handbags, footwear, and jewelry, the preview highlights Jarrar’s tailoring finesse and the razor-sharp lines her eponymous label (which she is shuttering) has been known for. The line up balances masculine and feminine silhouettes with a nod to1930’s eveningwear. Delicate floral prints across floor-length dresses and a silk, long-sleeved, scarf-neckline gown offer a fresh, new take on modest dressing—sure to capture the attention of women in the region—while tailored pantsuits are paired with crisp shirts and a fluid trench coat for updated closet staples. The collection’s minimal aesthetic and timeless elegance reflects the heritage of Lanvin itself, and hints at what’s in store for the French fashion house under Bouchra Jarrar’s direction.
