Qatari designer Noor Al Fardan is blurring the line between costume and fine jewelry, turning the pieces she creates for her brand, Noudar (which means “gold” in ancient Arabic), into works of wearable art.
For instance, take this white gold fingerless glove interlaced with a 3.7 carat diamond net: a knuckle-duster turned delicate creation that should be a conversation starter.
Fardan first showcased her collection at London Fashion Week in collaboration with Julien Macdonald’s S/S 14 show and has since gained momentum within the fine jewelry industry. Influenced by Islamic culture, the combination of traditional Arabic art and modern, edgy design gives her collection an avant-garde feel. Interestingly, her creative sensibility has already caught the eye of Lady Gaga, for whom she produced an exclusive piece to mark the release of the Born This Way album in 2011.
