Anne Hathaway as Fantine in the 2012 drama, Les Misérables

On August 31st, the Dubai Opera designed by late architect Zaha Hadid will open its grandiose doors and inaugurate its halls with a performance by “King of Opera” Plácido Domingo of the legendary Three Tenors—and that’s just the beginning. The curators of the Dubai Opera are keen to have its launch line up pack a punch and it has just been announced that the musical Les Misérables is coming to Dubai for the first time. Over 70 million people across 44 different countries have seen the record-breaking show, and guests will be invited to relive Fantine singing I Dreamed a Dream in Downtown Dubai starting November 10th. The musical will be produced by Sir Cameron Mackintosh (he of Phantom of the Opera and Cats) and will follow September’s debut of Rossini’s comic opera The Barber of Seville.

With Dubai Opera shows starting at 8pm, we’re expecting reservations to the highest restaurant in the world, At.Mosphere, located on the 122nd floor of the Burj Khalifa, to soar. Get into the mood for Les Miz with Chef Jerome Lagarde’s boeuf carrot (a French specialty of beef and carrots) before making your way to the opera and reliving the French Revolution from your plush seat.
