14 galleries from across the Middle East are partaking in the annual Shara Art Fair in Jeddah, which opened yesterday and will run throughout the week. Saudis are encouraged to become acquainted with the work of local and international artists via the commercial fair. Hosted by the Saudi Art Council, which is chaired by HRH Princess Jawaher bint Majed bin Abdulaziz, the Shara Art Fair follows the three-month annual art showcase titled “21,39.” This project featured the history and direction of the growing contemporary visual arts movement in Saudi.The Council is making efforts to also include a program that will revitalize Jeddah’s historic quarters.
