Home to cultural exhibitions and events, the Saadiyat Cultural District in Abu Dhabi will present a row of cultural dialogues within its regular talk and panel program, The Talking Art Series, entitled Artistic Dialogues Beyond East and West, to be held on February 26th, 27th, and March 1st.
The three-day event—three panel discussions held on the evenings of the aforementioned days—will be hosted by both Naman Ahuja, an Associate Professor of the Art and Architecture of Ancient India at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Doris Behrens-Abouseif, a Professor of Islamic Art & Archaeology at the SOAS University of London.
Investigating the East-West dichotomy, these panel discussions will approach various cultural relationships between Europe, the Near East, India, China, and beyond, through historical events and artistic practices.
The Talking Art Series is held at Manarat Al Saadiyat on Saadiyat Island Cultural District in Abu Dhabi, and organized by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, together with Agence France-Muséums and École du Louvre. The first cultural talks started in late October 2013 and will run until May 2014. A multitude of art-related topics have been analyzed in talks and workshops so far, including cultural traditions, calligraphy, and architecture in Islamic art.
The Manarat Al Saadiyat (Arabic for “The Place of Enlightenment”), which hosts the Saadiyat Cultural District, aims to become a world-renowned art and culture hub. Internationally reputed museums, such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, are currently under construction on Saadiyat Island.
